Community

At Hinkler Central, we value our place in the region’s community and take pride in giving back to the community that has made our centre so successful. As a result, we spend a significant amount each year sponsoring and supporting local events and community groups.

Some of the community groups we support include:

  • Bundaberg North Lions Club
  • Bundaberg PCYC
  • Bundaberg RSL
  • Neighbourhood Watch
  • Anglican Parish of Bundaberg

The Little Community Pantry
Hinkler Central is aiming to reduce hunger in the Bundaberg region by launching its Community Food Pantry initiative for distribution to those in need.

Delivered in partnership with the Anglican Parish of Bundaberg’s Dorcas Society, the Centre will be asking customers to collect extra items during their shop, or donate surplus non-perishable foods from home to the pop up pantry.

The variety of food items wanted includes canned vegetables or fruit, long-life products, canned protein foods and tea/coffee.

Dorcas Emergency Relief provides food for those needing support with basic grocery items. The Emergency Relief team operates four days per week and typically supports 40 people each week.

School Savvy
Getting children ready for a new school year can be a struggle for many families.

For families on low incomes, or children who rely on Centrelink benefits, it can be especially tough. School Savvy CQ aims to help as many children as possible be back to school ready, with the appropriate resources required to succeed.

School Savvy CQ is an annual back to school resources initiative aimed at children and families who are in need of financial assistance. Preloved uniforms are made available to purchase at very little cost, at a pop up store located within the region. School Savvy CQ’s aim is to provide children with the basics required to make the most of their school year and optimize their access to education.

School Savvy CQ is 100% community funded, meaning that all resources required are sourced through community donations, financial sponsorship and partnerships with other social services.

You can help by dropping any pre-loved school uniforms or stationery items in our donation bin in centre.
